“We” did it. When I say “we” I guess that could be taken literally. I did my part, though I chose to keep the details on what I did, how long I did it, how much I was paid, etc. to a minimum. I will say that I felt the process was rewarding. Being the smallest tooth on a tiny gear in a machine that has been called “the most effective political machine in the history of American politics” isn’t something I will put at the top of my resume. But it is something that I hope is valued by my children and will be shared by them with their children.
I wasn’t worried about a McCain victory….I don’t think he would have made a bad president. Truth be told I liked McCain much more as a senator than I did as a presidential candidate, though. To me his presidency seemed to be just as much of an unknown as Obama’s will be. We know what McCain stood for when he was a senator….but most of the “good stuff” got thrown out the window in his quest for the presidency. Critics talk of Obama’s shape-shifting and wonder what he’ll do as president…..and if it were up to me to answer….I would only need three words (not three letters)….What will Obama do as President?
The right thing.
History was made…..and I think that there is a renewed sense of pride in most Americans this morning. Of course there is a new sense of fear for a significant percentage of Americans as well….the ones who freely tossed around terms like “terrorist and socialist” when referring to the president-elect. Now that Mrs. Neiman Marxist has gone back to Alaska we’ll see if she is able to continue that state’s proud tradition of earmarks and corruption. I’m thinking she’s pretty good at her job so she’ll be fine. If times get tough because of the low price of oil she can always sell some of the clothing that disappeared before she was able to donate it to charity. History will judge Obama based on what he accomplishes while in office…but the fact that we, the people, elected the first black president of the United States says a lot about progress. Hopefully he isn’t the president-elect because he is black….hopefully he can bring about the change in Washington that his campaign talked about from start to finish…and hopefully he deserves the trust so many Americans have placed in him.
If not....oh well...at least he isn't a Bush or a Clinton.

Vote
If you haven't already...get out to the polls and vote. I have been looking forward to this day for a longggg time. Not only because it means that the robocalls 12 times a day will stop....and the baby killing postcards will no longer clutter our mailbox....but that's nice too.
Drink the red koolaid or drink the blue koolaid....I don't think one man is going to save this nation from ourselves....but you never really know for sure do you? I drove by my polling place this morning and there was a line out of the building and into the parking lot...which probably means about 80 people deep at 8:00am....not too bad. I'm sure it will ebb and flow all day...but the kids and I are down for as long as it takes.
We look forward to an evening (post homework) of sitting by the teevee as a family and watching the early reports float in. I hope they don't "call"the election until late (post bedtime)....I look forward to waking the kids up tomorrow morning and telling them who the next president of the USA is going to be.
